Reflecting On December's Reality

Can you find "the real" in my photo?
So, it's December 1st, and the forecast tells us that we'll not see Old Sol for about four days. Artificial sun is the way to go. We need it. Our minds and bodies can't function, let alone thrive, without light. Twinkling varieties abound, accommodating us nicely by reflecting in anything glass. Ten Christmas trees loom, all emanating from an original in the living room. Lamplight brightens the gray tree that holds bird feeders. Pretty shades light up what's beneath them, as they glimmer from windows and hutches, too. Perfect.

This light show encourages reflections of the mind, for me. What's real, taken from holidays past? What has been enhanced to perfection by the mind's eye? Whatever the answer, it's so good, so good, so good to harbor soothing, satisfying brightness.

The Rockefeller Center tree has been lit, the season officially begun. Mariah Carey looked (they are real, boys!) and sounded awesome, as she delivered holiday cheer. I couldn't help but notice, though, Mayor Bloomberg's somber expression. Did he wonder if neighbors can find the light again, as they struggle back from Sandy to find new reality is? They shall be a constant presence in my heart, as I watch the world twinkle.

Fact is, the GrandLoves are very excited to be counting down the nativity calendar.

May that joy forever be their reality... and yours, too!
