Protect-
ing our children from what retailers are trying to turn Christmas into is no easy task... but, it is possible.
For me, the first step is to fiercely cherish our Thanksgiving, as we focus on its intent. December 1st comes soon enough. It seems like just yesterday, when opening the first door of the Advent calendar would set our house into a frenzy of holiday excitement. We had so many special traditions leading up to Christmas Eve, when the boys were little; none of them included shopping. I think our family holds the record for the oldest kids ever to BELIEVE - or so dear friend, Nicki, tells me. And so it goes...
'Tis the season, once again, for holidays to conflict our minds with sometimes-happy and sometimes-wishful thoughts. My one desire would be for every child to feel joy, in the creation of his or her own memories.
Let's hope.
