Our upstate Grands, just over bouts of strep, were disappointed by the cancellation of family festivities, yesterday. Christian suggested that we meet halfway, to save the day over lunch. Super idea.
We rendezvoused in the oft-mentioned New Paltz, at the (link) Harvest Cafe. It sits high and boasts a spectacular view of the Ridge, with Mohonk's tower in crystal-clear view. Their fare is delicious, and they allowed us to dawdle. Excellent.
Our adorable Little Man kept busy by coloring in the ♥'s book I'd made, mentioned in an earlier post. He then wrote an unprompted story on its last page, and at Dawn's request, read it aloud. He expressed an understanding of the book's message of love (with each page having a Valentine's theme), further saying, "G-d would be pleased, because He wants us to love each other." Seven years old. Imagine. Is it any wonder my heart melts?
Meanwhile, beautiful Little Sweetness smothered Gramps to pieces - she adores him - and vice versa, of course! Joe had a workout, and I'm chuckling as I mention her intrigue with his blonde locks. It's hilarious: "G'pa, you have such soft hair," anticipating his reply, "Oh, so do you, Honey."
Time flew, and parting ways is always brutal; I miss them before we're out of the parking lot. But, what can you do? Whatever the amount of time, togetherness is always a cherished gift.
We drove into the breathtakingly gorgeous sunset, for a good part of the trip home.
Happy Trails.
