Yesterday's cloudy weather prompted us to check out the baby eagles of the Rondout Reservoir, (link) WheelsSeries. On our way, we saw two fawns grazing...
We found the nest intact and with two very large brown birds sitting above it, one lighter in shade and far more visible than the other. They were chatting it up big-time, actually mimicking loud sounds back and forth to each other; but for a long time, neither budged off his/her respective branch. Patience and Queen Anne's Lace were clearly in order. No sooner did Joe say, "Nick, please - fifteen minutes more...," when the darker of the siblings decided to soar, gifting us quite the air show.
Eventually, he returned to the crooked tree, where his sibling sat, statuesque and contented, as were we. Soon after, someone saw the regal Momma flying nearby. I caught just a glimpse, unable to shoot quickly enough. The fledges are about four months old now and continue to have parental support, as they grow into fending for themselves.
We took yet a different route home; my G-d, it was magnificent. The sun was breaking through, just in time for what would later be a classic sunset. Of course, a picture was in order, so we employed the car hood and camera's self-timer.
