One For The Baby Grands

Is there a child who is not fascinated by Garter Snakes? Is there a gardener who has not lost just a little life, when one surprises him or her during chores? Here is a "Why?" that I had never previously explored.
Though we avoided each other this summer, it
seems that my garden has been home to a visitor.
There must have been adequate chow for
a successful growth spurt, 'cause you see...
a snake's skin does not grow, as it grows.
Therefore, to accommodate its new length and girth,
it must shed its outer layer to reveal new skin...
a fresh start.
